In my unbound walk of life, I often interact with people with big goals and dreams. These ambitions are often far removed from their actual life experience and they are slowly dying inside, from a thirst for living a deeper, fuller, more meaningful life.
Dreams give meaning to life. It gives us something to strive for, something to keep us going every day and unbound joy. It usually requires something from us to make it happen though, whether it is some sweat equity or simply aligning our thoughts in the direction in which we want to go. And that’s exactly where most people who don’t achieve their goals, go wrong.
The ability to trust the process is often the most crucial step to making it happen, but if you don’t trust the process, you often can’t take the actions required to make those big, hairy goals happen.
The Reason Why We Fear the Process
What happens when you go with the flow? You get caught up in the stream, but if you don’t know where it leads, you may end up in a whirlpool… [insert all your fears right here] and that’s when we strap on the life-jackets and move as far from the water as we possibly can. However, that’s also far away from the beautiful sights and experiences that require us to get wet.
In short, we fear what we do not know and that’s what stops us from experiencing a life unbound. We have to let go of the desire to control every outcome. Undesirable outcomes are nothing more than growth opportunities.
“Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spirituality. Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins.” – Jim Rohn
How do we navigate the process? How do we experience life to the fullest while keeping everything in tact?
Well, sometimes we have to let go of our preconceived ideas of what we really need and want to experience the amazing things on the other side.
Learning How to Trust the Process and Live Life Unbound
When we make an inner shift, it is often followed by dramatic external shifts. We are not always aware of internal shifts, but they happen all the time. They are necessary, because otherwise life would be stagnant, which really is the opposite of unbound.
Here’s how you can learn to trust the process to start living life unbound:
1. Accept Everything as Transient
Whether things are good or bad, it is often hard to accept their transient nature. Enjoy the good moments to the fullest and be present when things are difficult. Don’t try to fight your feelings. Acceptance has a way of diminishing the magnitude of those undesirable emotions.
2. Know That You Always Have Choices
Perspective is extremely important and you have to accept that the past does not define you. You’re a new person, and you have the power to make choices that enhance your future, every day. You don’t have to remain stuck in yesterday. Grow from failure, because it’s nothing more than feedback.
3. Accept That You Will Make Mistakes
The nice thing is that, in most instances, we can recover from mistakes. If your day didn’t quite go as planned, accept it for what it was (don’t make it bigger than it needs to be) and get over it. Tomorrow is another day in which you can conquer your goals, or fix today’s mistakes.
“Man learns through experience, and the spiritual path is full of different kinds of experiences. He will encounter many difficulties and obstacles, and they are the very experiences he needs to encourage and complete the cleansing process.” – Sai Baba
4. Look at the Possibilities
The main reason why many people don’t get out of the starting blocks, is because they don’t look at the amazing possibilities, but instead get hung up on all the ways in which they may fail. Consider for once what you would miss out on by not taking the plunge. Hopefully that will inspire you to do what you really want to do.
