The human body is truly amazing… Not only does it house the mind and spirit, but it can give birth, give love, and help you travel from point A to point B. I spend some time every day giving thanks for my body and try to be aware of all the different sensations it experiences. It’s a gift to be closely tuned in to your body and to feel everything (physical and emotional) so very deeply.
But sometimes, it gets to be a little too much. I’m sure you’ve had that experience where you’ve simply spread yourself too thin, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Being a woman who is tuned deeply into your soul is the most liberating experience, but because you feel and experience, your body can get pretty tired, followed by your mind and eventually you will need a break to help you tune back into your soul purpose.
Last week, I decided to have a spa week at home. I had only a few rules:
1. NO stress allowed.
2. NO bad eating allowed.
3. LOTS of exercise required.
4. LOTS of meditation daily.
5. DAILY beauty treatments.
Of course life got in the way and my blissful spa week didn’t really go as planned. However, I managed to include a little bit of everything and I feel pretty good, if not a bit more relaxed than when I started out. But midway through my (mostly failed) spa week, I did realize something: It would be more effective if I made more effort to make all of these things a bigger part of my life – daily. It’s not that I don’t have the time or inclination to do it, but there are so many ways in which we can enhance our energy, that I just don’t always remember it.
So, I decided to make a list and share it with you. I’ll also print out the list and keep it handy, so that whenever I have a moment, I can pick one from the list right away.
Soul-Energizing Activities You Can Do Daily
1. Conscious Breathing
Simply go outside and inhale deeply through your nose, holding the breath for a few seconds before letting it out through your mouth.
There’s no quicker way to get rid of tension than stretching for a few minutes after work, especially when you use a computer all day long. I stretch when I wake up every morning.
Choose a type of exercise that appeals to your energy levels. If you’re uptight, ride a bike or go for a jog or even a brisk walk. If you’re tired and need to relax, do a few minutes’ of yoga.
Take some time to quiet your mind in meditation or prayer, as that is a fantastic way to nourish your soul.
Aaaah… sleep! Develop a relaxing bedtime routine if you struggle going to sleep, and be sure to avoid caffeine, stress, and heavy meals before bedtime. Soothing, relaxing music can help induce the calmness needed before you drift off to sleep.
This was the idea behind my spa-week… Pampering yourself at least once a week with whatever makes you happy, will help you feel great. Recreate a spa atmosphere at home while you get your spouse to give you a neck or foot-rub, or enjoy a blissful bubble bath, alone or with significant other.
Read whatever stimulates your mind and helps you to relax.
8. Find a hobby
While your mind is occupied while you perform a hobby, it is a concentrated effort in which you will become absorbed. It will help you forget your worries and concerns and you will feel good about yourself.
9. Walk on the beach
I simply love the ocean and go for regular walks. If you don’t have a beach, find another soothing spot where you can unplug and just be. Ideally, somewhere near nature would be ideal.
A word of caution though: Don’t wait until you feel burned out before taking action. These are maintenance activities that should be a part of your daily routines. If you don’t have time to do all of them, choose one to do every day, and alternate, especially if a routine bores you.
I hope these tips inspire you and of course, I’d like to hear from you too. What do you do to revive your spirit?
